Sherwood Forest

Going 'op north taking Ben and Hannah back to uni, stopped off at Sherwood Forest, the home of Robin Hood, the village that is right next to the forest, Edwinstowe, has a host of Robin Hood inspired names, Maid Marian Secrets - hair and beauty place, Castle Courtyard, Robin Hood Roofing, Friars Lodge Guest House, all real businsses - they are listed in the online web directory.

With the sun out there were a lot of familes, children, dogs, on the path, with all paths leading to the major oak, a massive old tree, which in 2002 was voted 'Britan's favourite tree'.

A Royal Wedding

I was at work and as it was a bank holiday, the shop was doing Sunday hours, 11-4pm, which means that I had to leave my house at a crucial moments when Kate Middleton left the hotel and everyone got to see the dress. I had radio four on in the back, not enough, I wanted visuals. The iPad wasn't allowing me to watch BBC iPlayer, and the photos were loading fast enough. I did the absolute minimum to open then went off downstairs to see who had Internet. I must have been too hyped up for the Up & Running team as when I asked them if they had Internet, they said no, how rude. Cotwold was hooked up to the Internet and I got to watch a few moments and see the dress properly. So pretty. Done, happy to go back to work and wait for the highlights and an evening of endless news updates and more photos on TV and web of the royal wedding.

There was a lot of wedding memorabilia available on the run up, I too indulged in a little tacky memorabilia purchasing. A Twinnings royal wedding special tea blend with commemorative tin, a second commemorative tin of shortbread (without their heads on the top) and a packet of royal wedding stickers, which did make perfect tacky gifts to send abroad.

 My thoughts on the day.
  • David Cameron's wife did have a nice dress but she should have worn a hat.
  • Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice looked like the ugly sisters, sorry, but they did.
  • The Middleton women all looked really good.
  • The couple looked very happy.
  • A seamless day - they hired some good people.
  • Fabulous dress, fantastic tiara, stunning evening gown.
  • It would have been brilliant if Kate had been driving William in the Aston Martin.
  • The Queen was hilarious on the balcony - when she had enough and just wondered back in - legend.

I wouldn't say I'm a royalist, but I would prefer that we didn't give them so much of our tax money and who doesn't love a wedding?
